HAVE YOU WORKED IN
THE MILITARY
Do you work in the military or for another 999 service?
SCAS works in partnership with other emergency services and the military to provide Co-Responders who volunteer and undertake training to be able to support people in their community.
Our military co-responders in particular spend significant time, voluntarily raising funds to provide vehicles and equipment that can be used within their local communities.
We have Co Responding schemes in all four counties of SCAS and continue to work with our partners to enhance the models of care to our patients.

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS for short) is part of the National Health Service (NHS). SCAS’ main functions are:
- Accident and emergency service that responds to 999 calls
- Provision of the NHS 111 service for when medical help is needed but it’s not an emergency
- Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS)
- Commercial Logistics Service
SCAS’ clinical coordination centres handle around 500,000 emergency and urgent calls each year, and around 1.25 million NHS 111 calls. The Trust serves a population of about 4.6 million people in its core area of the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire, and has recently also become the provider of the NEPTS service in Surrey and Sussex.
SCAS started working with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) two years ago to recruit military service leavers through job fairs hosted by the CTP. Since then, military recruitment at SCAS has grown considerably and more in-depth recruitment related activity is now taking place. SCAS is also part of the NHS Employers Reservist group and active Champions for Military workers within the NHS.
Thanks to our organisations commitment to both serving personnel and veterans, SCAS was one of just 33 employers recognised with the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme in August 2017. SCAS is one of just two ambulance services in England to receive this prestigious award. You can find out more details at https://seepotential.campaign.gov.uk/
We have a number of roles in our organisation that would be suitable for someone who is looking to transition out of service and wants to work in an environment with similar values to those that the Military adheres to. All of our vacancies are advertised on NHS Jobs http://www.jobs.nhs.uk and you can find out more about our roles at http://www.scasjobs.co.uk/
